What Is GATE?

Gifted and Talented Education at MSU offers educational experiences tailored to gifted students and their families.

GATE's academic year programs offer students an opportunity to take math, literature, and select foreign language courses at the high school level beginning in middle school. These twice-accelerated programs allow students to complete their high school curriculum requirements in half the time*, allowing them to take AP or dual enrollment courses, or to pursue other educational endeavors in their high school years. Students may apply beginning in the spring of their sixth grade year.

GATE's summer programs offer an opportunity to participate in programming unique to gifted students in facilities not available to the general public. Experts in their field provide an array of hands-on, advanced learning opportunities for students beginning in third grade.

*Japanese language course is three years.

About Gifted and Talented Education

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) is a division of University Outreach and Engagement at Michigan State University. The GATE office is dedicated to promoting differentiated educational programs for students in middle school and high school. The mission of the Gifted and Talented Education office is to provide educational experiences that allow gifted students to develop intellectually, to cultivate social relationships, and to expand their understanding of the world.
